Question about an in school suspension

I am currently a 10th grader, I switched school districts and don’t to the same high school that I did freshman year. In the beginning of my freshman year I got an in school suspension because I had prank texted some kid who had attacked me in middle school. So I have a few questions:

  1. I know that on college applications it asks if you have had a suspension from school since 9th grade, would an in school suspension count.
  2. Will this hurt my chances on getting into a good college if I have an ISS for prank texting someone?
  3. After a lot of thinking about the incident I realized that I didn't see that I violated anything in the student hand book (which is in the front of the planners my hold school gave to freshman, i still had mine), i looked at the student hand book from last year, and as far as i can tell, i didnt violate anything and didnt deserve the ISS, but the old principle was an idiot and didn't know anything so it doesnt surprise me he gave me an ISS. If I contacted my old school informing them that I hadn't violated anything in the handbook could they retroactively remove the ISS from my records?

Any other input would be great.

You will have to report it because it is probably on your transcript. Your current GC can tell you if it is. The question about school disciplinary action must be answered honestly.

When asked to explain do not blame the principal or argue that you did not violate the school codes; that will make you look argumentive and defensive and could hurt you more than the disciplinary action. Just state that you texted someone inappropriately and how that has taught you (hopefully) to be less impulsive or retributive.

Find out whether it appears on transcript, and how it is phrased. I do not think that a dumb prank committed as a freshman will have a significant impact on your admissions prospects, provided you have maintained a clean record since then. Answer as simply as possible; do not attempt to rationalize your behavior. Just say “violation of school’s policy regarding _____ resulted in an in-school suspension.”

But this is the thing, i didn’t violate my old schools policy, and i wouldnt try to justify that way to a college. I was saying I want to try to get my old school to remove from my records because i hadnt violated their rules in order to deserve it. i got my transcript from my old school when i applied to my new high school and it didnt say anything, but i know they can request discipline records, my transcript only had grades.

Talk to your college counselor. We are kinda guessing in the dark here. He/She will have a lot more information about the process.
