Question about AP Scores

Did you guys send your AP scores to Stanford directly from CollegeBoard? Does Stanford require you to do so? Thanks.

You don't have to do it until after you get accepted.

I sent mine in anyway --- I figured it wouldn't hurt. However, that is an additional investment in $ if you choose to do so.

What do you mean you don't have to turn it in until after you get accepted? Do colleges see how many AP tests you've taken, like the SAT, etc.?

wouldn't you want to tell them your AP scores first? they're sort of like.. validation that you really did learn from your AP courses, right? They could help your chances of admission..... errr.. right?

Right. You self-report your AP scores on the application, but you don't have to send them the official report until after you get accepted. Which means you do not want to lie...

You can (and should) self-report your scores on the application. You only need to send the official score report to the school where you are going to matriculate.

ditto what nngmm said, and usually then it doesn't cost any money because most people take AP tests senior year. So come May, just write to have your scores reported to Stanford (it's free and they send all previous scores and the scores you're going to get on this year's exams).

Even if you don't think you want to use the credit, it doesn't matter, report your scores. If you take a class that forfeits the credit (i.e. a class that Stanford says you shouldn't based on your score) then Stanford will automatically forfeit the credit without touching any of those other credits you got. So send it in, because you might change your mind, and it can't hurt in any way (not even monetarily). Plus, AP credit given shows up on your COLLEGE transcript. and job recruiters see that.

??:

I happen to be taking a fair number of AP classes this year that Stanford does not offer credit for in exchange, so to speak, for a 4 or 5 (actually... all my AP scores this year will be "worthless" except for BC calc and last year's physics). Are there any good reasons to go ahead and spend the $83 per test to take a bunch of exams that won't place me out of anything next year (like AP Bio and AP Euro, German, Psych, and English). The only reason I can think of is that is may serve as good practice at taking finals (except I still have separate finals in most of my AP classes). At my school you can take an AP class but taking the AP test is not required & does not affect your grade.

So... do you think I should have a somewhat less stressful couple of weeks in May (and save a lot of $$) and only take the tests I'll get credit for next year at Stanford, or should I just go ahead and take them all for the heck of it?

Thanks for your help!

i'll probably take them just so they show up on my transcript --- i will have already paid for the APs by the time i decide on what college I will be attending

There is no reason to take AP tests if the school you are going to attend does not give you credit for them (unless you think you might transfer elswhere later on). It is a waste of your time and money.

it won't hurt anyways..........it will at least somehow sort of show your strenth in some particular subjects provided you score well...........
