Question about Recomendations

So I'm planning on transferring for Fall 2014

I am having my English professor write my letter of recommendation.

I'm confused with how this works. I don't see any place in the actual common application for the letters of recommendations. I only see the option in my list of colleges I'm interested in going to when I press "assign recommenders" and it has the form for me to fill out. Does this mean that it will only assign that recommendation to that one school?

My question is do I have to do this for EVERY college. Or do I just get my professor to fill out one recommendation then afterwards it'll be saved to my common app and I can simply press "assign recommenders" on each college I'm applying to and it will go there too.

Also I'm not 100% sure that I have found all the colleges I'm applying to so can even if my prof submits my recommendation can I still assign it to colleges say in 3 months if I find any other colleges I'm interested in?

I'm just really confused...I hope this makes sense. Thanks for any help.

Don’t worry. Actually all of the applicants (freshman, transfer) have same problem.

Seems like everyone is having this problem, so I contacted the Common App people and they said that the recommenders would have to submit only once and it can be used for any college you apply to (I guess you just click the “assign recommenders” dropdown and you could select to use it).

Here’s the response:

So even after your recommender submits a recommendation, you can use/assign that completed recommendation to whatever university you decide to apply to in the future. It will always be there as an option for you to assign.

Hope this was helpful.
