Question about Columbia GS- GSAE exam

Hello,
I currently go to a community college and is thinking about applying to Columbia. I noticed that they offer GSAE exam for those who have never taken SATs before. I was wondering if anybody here has taken this exam and what they thought of it. Is there any way I can prepare for this exam?
If I were to study the verbal parts of SAT exam, would this help me get a better score on GSAE exam?
Should I study a lot of vocabulary (SAT vocabs)?
Thanks in advance

Hi,
I am applying to GS also! I am retaking standardized testing though...I'm sorry I can't give more helpful advice, but I think studying ACT reading and writing or SAT would help. Are you applying for spring semester?

No need to study, seriously. The exam is incredibly remedial; if you don't score well you will not succeed at Columbia.

I guess I am just getting kind of nervous since I didn't do much after highschool for a long long time. I am going to community college now and doing very well, but I think I am still a bit overwhelmed by the Columbia prestige that I keep doubting myself... :)
So I am assuming there's no extremely difficult SAT style vocabularies on that test?

What is the passing score for the exam and do they give you the score sometime soon after taking the exam?

I am applying for next Fall :)

No they don't give you a score, they told me you could request it but I didn't think it was necessary for two reasons:

1) I don't want to nag the front office, I want them to love me not fear my Caller ID.
2) It doesn't matter anywhere else except for Columbia GS

I felt the test was fairly easy. It was well rounded and unique. It had the College Board logo in small print in the bottom corner so I'm guessing they are going to be using some of the SAT's algorithms to determining academic capacity. That would also explain why they tell students if they want to study, study the SAT.

I asked for my score when I took the exam; they were happy to give it to me.

And how did you do on the test? Did you end up going to GS?

Here’s the info on the GSAE. I literally took it today. My conclusion is this: if you are even remotely Columbia material you do not need to prepare for this test.

The test is composed of four parts. The first three are basic grammar, reading comprehension, and questions about the meaning of graphs. Those three sections were each 30 - 45 questions, with 30-45 minutes given (a minute allotted per question in the section).

The fourth section was essay writing. They gave me an empty blue notebook with a sticker inside with the topic for the essay. It is not ethical to reveal the topic I was asked to write about, but if you are able to construct a five-paragraph essay with a strong introduction and conclusion, plus strong topic sentences and supporting details, you will do fine.

If you consider yourself intelligent and well-educated on a high school level, THERE IS NO REASON FOR CONCERN.

what scores did you get? What scores did anyone get and did they get in?
