Question about fan support?

Hi. I’m currently a senior in HS from southern MA and I am trying to choose between Villanova, UMiami, and BC. While this is by no means a major determining factor, I am interested to know how strong fan support is for the Eagles. For example, do the football games sellout regularly? How strong is support for hockey, basketball, and baseball?

Thanks.

Dear Unsure2016 : Support for the men’s ice hockey team has been off-the-charts strong in the last four seasons led in part by two national championships and, some would argue more importantly, back-to-back Beanpot victories.

Football season is just a wonderful confirmation of the greatness of an NCAA Division I ACC experience. While this last season showed the cracks from mediocre recruiting in the last three-to-four years, the team was still well supported.

The men’s basketball team is supported, but has generally struggled since the Skinner era. Baseball generally sees weak support at most schools as the “stands” are generally not set to be full-blown stadium experiences.

Hope that this helps.

Adding my two cents here. I am a season ticket holder for football and I am ready for the fall season to start. Although BC can not copy the environment that other division one schools have (thinking big time SEC experience), football game days are a ton of fun and I wouldn’t miss it for the world. Also, I’ve heard that the first game of the season for 2012 will be 9/1 vs. Miami - what more could you ask for?

For the past 20 years or so, I’ve gone to a couple of hockey games a year and while I don’t think the support is off the charts strong, like scottj suggests, I think if you are a hockey fan, you will enjoy the games. I also go to the NCAA quarterfinals whenever they are in the Boston area, and I have been surprised at how few BC students attend when BC is in that bracket. Other schools (BU, UNH, Maine) seem to have a more rabid fan base, but then again, hockey is really their only sport. I do agree that winning the Beanpot can make or break the year for you. Just ordered my tickets this week for the Hockey East finals and I’m hoping BC will win it all again this year.

As for basketball, I am one fan who is excited about this team. I’ve been to a couple of the games this year and have been pleasantly surprised by the level of talent on this young team. I really like the coach and think they could be quite competitive in a year or so. The team seems to pull more support from the community than the students this year, but I think they have potential and the students will return.

Thanks for the replies!
