This question has most likely been asked before, but I don't have the time right now to search for it.

What should I do if I've been accepted to a few schools and waitlisted at others that I'm eager to hear a final decision from?

I'm unsure about what school I want to go to at the moment, and I want to be able to make a decision after I have been given a final decision from the schools I have been waitlisted at.
Can I send in deposits to a school I have been accepted to, and then withdraw it if I decide to go to a school I hear from later? Is this a bad idea? etc.

Sorry for some stupid questions, I just don't want to settle when I could go to a better school, though I'll probably be content with wherever I go.

If you send multiple deposits, that’s called “double depositing” which is forbidden. Of the schools that have accepted you, you must decide before their notification deadline. If any of the WL schools still interest you, you let them know you’d like to stay on their WL. You won’t hear back from them until likely June. Some slots even open up as late as August. If they give you a Yes, then you need to decide whether to drop your first school (and lose deposit – otherwise, no ramifications).

You must decided on one of your current accepts because it’s not likely that any single one of your WL schools will admit you before the first deadline.

@goingonwithlife — Yeah, that’s what I was thinking. I can live with that though being as my decision will affect the rest of my life lol.

@T26E4 — Thank you for informing me about “double depositing”! I most likely was not going to do that, and as you said, I would have made a choice on one of my current accepts. Is losing deposit the only negative of dropping a school? If so I would be happy with that.

I’ve actually never really gotten the logic behind this.
Say a student is accepted to School A and is waitlisted at School B. He deposits at School A. Say, later, an opening comes up at School B and the student leaves his spot at School A. Then School A would have an opening, and have to accept a student off their waitlist, who has already deposited at School C. Then School C gets an opening, and accepts a student going to School D, leaving an opening at D.
Isnt that an endless cycle?
