Question About Financial Aid for BS

So I was accepted at Miss Hall’s (first choice school, yay).

I worked really hard to get in and started sobbing tears of joy when I got the email, but now I’m SERIOUSLY worried and very anxious. I’ve been bugging my mom about financial aid and if we got it, and she doesn’t seem super hopeful. She says we need to let them know how much we need or something? I didn’t completely understand, but with our financial situation, I would need at least 50% of the tuition covered, otherwise I’d have to stay at my current school (something I REALLY REALLY don’t want to do).

Would a school let you know if you got accepted without financial aid? Some students here had a situation where they would be waitlisted with financial aid, but accepted if they could attend without it. **Would schools let you know this information IN acceptance packages/letters/emails? Or would that be a separate email/letter? **

In general, how does financial aid work after acceptance, and how do you know if you got financial aid?

I’ve been in a pretty bad mood about this, but I’m trying to stay positive.

Edit: Miss Hall’s says there’s a financial aid waitlist that’s likely to move when the seniors leave, but I still don’t understand what my mom meant.

First, Congratulations to your acceptance! Kudos to your hard work!

When you get the admission package in the mail, it should contain everything: Admission letter, Financial Aid information, etc. So if you have received the package, review it carefully with your mom.

That is assuming that 1) you checked Yes, I’m applying for the Financial Aid box when you applied and that 2) your parents submitted the required detailed income information to the school. After your mom filled in the FA form, it gave EFC, estimated family contribution, which may not agree with your need.

Last year when my daughter applied to Miss Halls, the FA info came in the acceptance package.

Good luck and congrats!!!

Miss Hall’s sends the FA details in the package that comes via US postal service, not in the email. Congratulations and good luck!

Yes, Cameo is correct - I should have been more specific. It comes in the mail.

Cameo, hoping your daughter is having a fantastic year!

First off, congratulations.

Yes, it is not uncommon. It’s basically a financial rejection, unfortunately. At least one member this admissions cycle received an acceptance with 0 FA

thanks so much to al of you! i have yet to go home and check myself. im gonna bring the acceptance to my guidance counselors office so she can help me figure everything else out. i think my mom got financial aid, but is writing a little to the school about how much she needs. does that sound about right? is that how it works? @skieurope‌ @cameo43‌ @Louisianamomof2‌

Usually your parents put the amount they need in the financial aid forms they filled out. The schools should send you an award notice saying how much FA you received. It often comes by mail and is separate from the acceptance letter. If it is not enough then sometimes people contact the school.

Tofuqueen…when your mom filled out the FA form, she would have already put down how much she thought she could contribute to your tuition. The schools takes that into account but it doesn’t mean that is the amount she would have to pay. Sometimes the school will ask you to as a bit more…sometimes they don’t.

Ooh, alright. I understand. Sorry, I’m just really anxious. I haven’t even seen my acceptance package yet because I’ve been at my grandmum’s all week and won’t get home till tomorrow night, so I’m scared something went wrong somewhere @NYCMomof3‌ @MA2012‌ Thank you though!
