Question About GPA?

SO I have a couple questions about my gpa, as you can obviously tell. First of all, I've gotten straight A's and A+'s my entire high school "career" (I'm a rising senior) even in college courses EXCEPT for Calc I, which I ended up with a C+. "Oh no!" you say. "A C! You are destined for community college! Don't even bother! Give up now!" In all honesty though, it was a class in which the final was weighted so much that whatever grade you got on the final, regardless of past work, you got that letter grade. So me, being such a good, un-stressed test taker (LIES) ended up with a C+. Anyone know how that affects admissions and scholarship opportunities? I've got a 3.93 UW gpa still, but argh, that C is killing me! How's it affect everything?
Also, I do not have a weighted gpa. Even though I will have taken 50 credit hours of university (not CC) courses by the time I graduate, it's no weighted gpa for this chica. I'm a bit worried about that, because I see people with like "4.3! 4.65! 16.793...out of a 4 point scale!" Do colleges recognize unweighted gpa's, or will they just see a 3.9 and a 4.3 and go with the latter, even the latter has equally rigorous course but is weighted?
Thanks y'all
EDIT: wait what I did not mean to post this in the chances thread. Gotta fix that.

The 4.5 you see is a WEIGHTED GPA. Some scholls don’t weight them, and that’s fine.

Your GPA is incredible. Really, it is. Calc is a hard course. Colleges will get that.

Don’t compare yourself to people on CC. They go to different schools with different grading and different rigor. Colleges won’t compare you to students in other schools, so you shouldn’t do that to yourself.

Thanks @AnnieBeats! I’ve heard that colleges calculate gpa’s based on their standard, so I hope that’s true! I really shouldn’t spend so much time on here ahaha–I just end up wondering what the heck I’ve been doing with my life ;D

Everyone gets one slip-up, even for the elite schools. One grade does not a trend make. Put a string of those together and it might be a different story.

@MrMom62 that honestly makes me feel much better! I’m taking entirely university courses next year–“dual enrollment” and I’m aiming to get no less than an A-, and I know my strengths much better now. Do you think an A in Calc II would cause colleges to look over a C in Calc I? I really need merit aid, so this is really worrying me…

Put this in perspective: if you are interested in international affairs and Holyoke, I think you are well qualified to apply, probably have a good shot. We can’t predict; there are lots of misc factors. But a C in calc for a non STEM is not the end of the world. Also, most colleges don’t recalculate, who has time? They look at your transcript. Think about asking the GC if he/she would be willing to note how wonderful it is you challenged yourself with this class, how well you were doing up through the semester (if so,) and how this teacher overweights the last exam. In the right words, of course. And yes the DE will be favorable.

Colleges pay the most attention to uw gps. Many don’t even look at weighted. you’ll be fine. Where are you considering. I was able to get into a couple of places with a c or two and a lower gps than yours. And yes a higher grade in calc 2, especially if you have had a consistent record should help you quite a bit

Thanks so much everyone!
@shawnspencer see, I’m considering international affairs or aerospace engineering, in which case I’m afraid the C will really kill me. My colleges are as follows: super super reaches–MIT and Penn, high match Georgetown, matches Georgia Tech, Bryn Mawr, MoHo, Wellesley, Barnard, and safeties Indiana University and Purdue University. Honestly, I love all of these colleges, even my matches, so I wouldn’t mind being at any of them. I mean, MIT is such a huge reach anyway that I don’t think I need to worry about my C, because I doubt I’d get in even with an A. But Georgetown is my top school, and I don’t want to mess anything up with the C…(:
