I am thinking about taking MAC1140 (PreCalculus) and Mac1114 (Trig) in the same semester once I get to UCF. Can anyone tell me if this would be a wise choice or are they just too different to tackle in one semester? Thanks for the input!

For the most part, the two classes are two totally different fields of mathematics. I imagine it would be akin to taking two foreign language classes simultaneously. It depends on your math prowess, I suppose! If you took Geometry in grade school and had no troubles with it, Trigonometry shouldn’t pose any problems.

I considered doing this also, but I instead took MAC-1147, which is Precalculus and Trigonometry combined into one course. It covers the core components of Trigonometry (those used regularly in Calculus) in just a few chapters, while the rest of it is Calculus foundation. It also satisfies the prerequisites for the Calculus sequence. Check it out!

eric, are you sure its not MAC 2147 Mathematics for Calculus? Trig combined with preCalc.

Oh yes! Sorry, I took a look at the latest UCF class catalog and didn’t see MAC1147 in there. MAC2147 “should” satisfy the prerequisites for Calculus, but I’d definitely get in touch with an advisor first to make sure.

Don’t forget, if you are majoring in Business, you need to take MAC 1140 as a prerequisite for MAC 2233 / ECO 3401.
