Question About Math in High School... (IMPORTANT)

At my old private school, I made an 81 overall in Algebra 1 in eighth grade year. I was accepted into a public math and science school for freshman year. My schedule said Algebra 1 Advanced. In that class, it is a bunch of kids that don't want to learn. The class is for people who failed their EOC exam or made under a 17 on their ACT Explore. I know the math she is giving us... it is way too easy. What do I do to get out of that class?

Um…have you tried talking to your guidance counselor?

test out? just ace the class and take a summer one to be put in the right place next year? guidance counselor?

You don’t really seem all that bright though, judging from the way you typed out this thread. Keep an open mind and realize that public schools will differ from private schools, regardless of its being a specialized school.

Yeah, talk to your guidance counselor.

By the way, I didn’t take the EOC or the ACT Explore

You probably need to take an exit exam, so talk to both your school’s Math department chair and counselor and see if you can take the exit exam and switch classes.

Well, you did kind of get an 81… If I got that grade at my old school I’d have a C. I understand that you passed though, and you should he in Geometry, but this is a new school and they do things differently. Also, why didn’t you take the EOC? I believe it’s required to graduate. In my state, you can pass without even getting half of them right.

If you got an 81 in Algebra 1, it’s best you retake it. Algebra 2 is essentially a continuation of Algebra 1, and if you didn’t understand Algebra 1 you’re going to do even worse in Algebra 2.

Algebra 1 is completely normal for a freshman, anyway. But if you want to get a year ahead again, double up on Geometry and Algebra 2 sophomore year or take a summer class.
