Ok, so I’ve taken Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra 2, Pre-Cal, AP Calc-AB, and AP Statistics during my four years of high school. What is the benefit of taking the advanced math placement test and should I sign up for it?
Thanks in advance!

There is no benefit really if you scored a 5 on the AP Calc-AB exam. If you didn’t then you could take the exam to be placed straight into Math 125 if you so please. If you did get a 5 however then you are automatically in Math 125.
ok, thanks! I’m taking the AB AP Exam this Tuesday and on practice tests I’ve gotten high-end 4’s both times, really close to a 5. My intended major is molecular/cell biology so regardless of what happens, which math course do you think I should try and take my first year?
if your orientation is early you might want to sign up for math placement test as ap scores will no be release until July. I would just check the pre-requisites for your major and try to take those.
Aditionally you can always email an advisor who would more than gladly assist you in your decision.
thx for the help, I’ll check the website
You do not have to get 5 on your AP CalAB test to get a credit: 4 would be enough to have a credit for first quarter calculus (Math 124) so you can be placed into Math 125. If you get 5 then you can get two quarters of credits: Math 125/126. For your major you need Math 124 and 125. If you plan on going to med school then you may consider to take third extra quarter of calculus: Math 126.
Sorry for typo: with 5 on your AP CalAB you will get credits for Math 124/125, not 125/126…
Also, if you get at least 3 for AP Stat and 3 for APCalAB, you will get enough credits to cover your math requirement for your major: they let you combine 1 quarter of calculus and 1 quarter of stat instead of 2 quarters of calculus.
