Hi
I was just wondering how hard it was because I took Calculus B/C my junior year, but I ended up with a 4 on the placement test. Its been a year since I've taken a "real" math class (I took AP Statistics this year, which kinda doesn't count). Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Did you pass the AP Calculus BC exam?

If so, I recommend that you take Math 125 (Calculus I) or Math 118 (for Business and other majors). You will have to get clearance for this from the math department unless you actually took the placement exam. Did you get 40/40?

What is your major? Some majors don’t require math.

I passed the Calculus B/C AP test with a 4. My major is biological sciences. I do believe I need to take math for medical school admissions. Do I still need to take the placement test, or can I be placed out of it with approval from the math department?

You don’t need to take the placement exam! If you don’t remember too much Calculus, you can get D-clearance to take Math 125 by calling the math department during orientation. If you remember some Calculus, you can get D-clearance to take Math 126 by calling the math department during orientation.

The math department’s number is 1-213-740-2400.

If it’s been a year since you’ve taken a real math class, I’d suggest you start with Math-125. That’s what I did, and I am very glad I chose that. If I had gone directly into Math-126 like I could have, I would definitely have failed the class.
