So currently I don’t have any future career path I want to do…So I’m trying to put many ap as possible so I’ll be ready if I find one
My Question is
–Does it sounds too much? Is it ture colleges doesn’t care about ap class in senior year? (I want to go to competitive school). Also, I’m not doing any extra activities like band and sports will that be minus factor? And is it okay to do random volunteer as long as you steadily do it??
THANK YOU SO MUCH
It all depends on your work ethic. For some, just a few AP classes is a burden because they have a small work ethic while others can take multiple and thrive. If you have the work ethic to take all the AP classes you want to take, then it won’t be too hard. If you plan on applying to top colleges they will definitely care about your senior grades. Make sure to continue taking AP’s and getting a good GPA senior year.
Colleges certainly care about your senior year classes. They want to see you continue to challenge yourself, and will look at first semester grades for Regular Decision.
Don’t aim for as many AP classes as possible just to have them. Once you’re past about 8 (some say as low as 6), additional ones aren’t significantly meaningful. Take classes that interest you.
Same with EC. It doesn’t need to be band or sports, but schools do look for students with interests outside of school that they are heavily involved in and invest in. Just volunteering to put up hours doesn’t really help. Be passionate about something and take a leadership role where possible. Just one or two is fine, if it’s meaningful. In fact, that’s better than just thinly participating in multiple activities
Course schedules always depend on the student. Some do fine with heavy schedules, some don’t. My D will have pretty much exactly your schedule, except Calc BC instead of Pre-Calc and H French 4 for a language. She’s been a very high performer and I suspect she’s be OK with this level of rigor. My older D never would have taken this load - she dropped APUSH the first week due to workload, while taking 2 other APs. Everyone’s different.
Have you taken Physics? I recommend covering all three sciences before taking AP in two of them.
No required Gym class?
IMO, PreCalc, AP Stat, and AP Comp Sci is too much for one year. That’s essentially three math classes! I took both PreCalc and AP Stat concurrently my sophomore year and it was manageable, but I’m not sure how it would be to add Comp Sci!
College admissions and high school is not a race to fit in the most amount of APs. I recommend dropping AP Stat your junior year. AP Stat is considered an “easier” AP, and you still have PreCalc and Comp Sci. Your schedule is more than rigorous without AP Stat.
You seem to have a lot of STEM, but I don’t see physics anywhere. Many colleges want to see physics, chem, and bio to be considered competitive and preferably an AP in one of them. Again, you don’t need to fit in as many APs as possible and perhaps try to get some form of physics in. Maybe instead of Stat?
Your extracurriculars point more towards humanities, whereas your schedule is kind of more STEM-oriented. If your’re not sure what you want to do, I don’t recommend 3 AP and 1 honors stem classes in the same year. I also don’t think taking as many AP classes as you can is the right idea. Take APs in core classes, classes that are your favorite, or classes that you want to be more challenged in. If anything, find room for some “fun” electives that would allow you to explore your interests.
I went a little crazy with APs in high school and it can be a lot of work! No college will expect you to take that many APs junior year or senior year! Remember that jr year you will be doing SAT/ACT and subject tests, which you want time to study for. It’s also a good year to continue exploring your passions and finding things that you love to do. Senior year you’re going to have college apps! I just finished the college app process and it is SO TIME CONSUMING! It was extremely hard to manage with a rigorous schedule, ECs, and work! You want a schedule that is challening but not too time-consuming that it prevents you from other important things. I wish you the best of luck in your endeavors!
You really need to find out the rigor at YOUR school. At my kids’ school AP Stats and AP Comp Sci are both easily managed with very little to no homework. AP Art on the other hand is a HUGE time commitment and two AP Art classes would be insane.
Just curious what’s social honor society? Is the like Rho Kappa?
