question about my major

Right now I am in the college of Liberal Arts - Economics

I am considering switching to either Pre-Med or Business (McCombs)
Is it difficult to transfer over?

During orientation I can reselect my major, correct?

Help someone!

I don't think pre-med is actually a major...

I don't think you can change your major from one college to another at Orientation. Changing majors requires a transfer from one college to another - for example, you could apply for a transfer from the College of Liberal Arts to the College of Natural Sciences. The transfer process is similar to your original college application because it involves completing application paperwork and there are specific deadlines. In addition, some colleges are harder to get into than others. The Business School is one of the most difficult colleges at UT to get into, and I think the College of Natural Sciences (the college that many pre-med students choose) is fairly difficult.

However, I don't know the specifics of your admission and please don't take my word for this. It's too important to base a decision on my guesses. The good thing is that you are thinking about these issues now so you can be prepared for Orientation and registration. You might want to talk about this with your high school counselor or, even better, call or email your adviser at the UT's freshman center. You should be able to locate him/her at your UT Be-A-Longhorn homepage.

Actually, the College of Natural Sciences is fairly uncompetitive to get into compared to other schools like Fine Arts, Business, and Engineering.

I seriously doubt you can switch your major at orientation, or even this semester. You are accepted to the university based on your acceptance to your major...you don't just have blind acceptance to every program. Usually you have to apply to change your major for the next semester and compete for spots with everyone else in the University trying to get into the program.

Also, pre-med isn't a major. It's just a set of classes you take above and beyond your major requirements, unless of course you major in Biology, and all of the med school requirements are part of the major,
