Question about my parents and college

My dad went to college for a year and dropped out to work, my mom never attended college. Do I still list that my dad went to college? Also how much will this weigh in on my situation from a admissions person's standpoint? Does this give me an edge at all? I am for the most part applying to school to which I would say I am borderline, I fit in SAT wise but not GPA wise, anything that can help, will be great for me. Thanks if you know the answer to this question:)

Yes, you still list that your dad attended college.

Whether your parents' lack of college degrees will matter will depend on where yo're applying. State universities tend to be mainly driven by stats (unless, of course, you're a recruited athlete). Other universities may or may not give tips to students whose parents lack college degrees.

When you make your list, make sure you have at least one financial safety school: a school you know you'll get admitted to, can afford, and would enjoy attending. In checking your back posts, I think that at least one school that is on your list doesn't promise to meet 100% of students' financial need. If $ is important, then always check colleges' financial aid section and find out how financial aid is determined. Keep in mind, too, that the college, not your parents, determines what your need is, and the college could choose to meet that need by giving you a very large loan package.

You may find that different college ask the question differently. Read each application carefully to see if they ask about your parents' attendance or graduation from college. If you really want to highlight it, you may also be able to use your goal of being the first person in your family to graduate from college as the subject of one of your essays or short answers. Good luck.
