Question about Northwestern

So the deadline for transfer apps is May 1, and I understand notification is late June?

If most of the other schools we applied to have reply deadlines in early June, who is seriously going to turn down the other schools in order to wait on the possibility that Northwestern is an admit? Is there any way to get the decisions earlier? This just doesn't make sense to me.

i got admitted to NU as a freshman, and i will be hearing from Penn and Columbia before NU's notification, I get into either penn, brown, or columbia, i am withdrawing from NU....however, i spoke to the transfer coordinator there, and he said, if i could show him that I need to commit to another school, they could expedite my decision, being that I was already admitted last year

The possibility of your having to make a commitment before the date of decision is what caused them to offer an expedited decision; your being admitted already had nothing to do with it.

isn't most everyone in that position? I remember speaking to someone admissions about this in february and if i remember correctly, he said, if NU is really your first choice, you would deposit at your other school and then if you get accepted to NU, you lose your deposit you made to the other school.

Yeah, I got accepted there as a freshman two years ago, but I don't see how that's relevant...

So we can possibly get expedited decisions? So far, I've gotten into Brown and I'm waiting to hear from some others. I don't think NU is my first choice, but I need to know whether I got in before deciding. Are NU apps looked at on a rolling basis, as in by when they were submitted? Or is it more like they notify us on a rolling basis? I'm kind of worried because I sent in my application on the deadline date.

Honestly lethe,

If you got into Brown and prefer it (which I would), you don't need to wait for NU. Go to Brown and tell NU you are withdrawing.

Well, I'm pretty sure that I prefer Brown as a school, but there are some geographic factors that may make NU (or Chicago) better for me. I'm honestly not set on Brown... otherwise, I would definitely go there and withdraw my other applications so that others might have a better chance. Has anyone forced decisions at NU at all?
