Question about party schools

I applied to CSU Chico, and I just got in. Although I didn't consider it originally, I ended up applying because it's close to my hometown, has a decent video game design program, and I hear there's also a good train that could take me straight from the school to my city (which is a big plus).

That being said, I've heard a lot of stuff about chico being a huge party school. I never really wanted to go to a party school, but I figured if there was a party scene, I could just avoid it. I really want to go to a school where I can make friends and maybe join some clubs - a very laid back, more 'genuine' environment - but I'm not looking for people I can just drink with for four years.

If you go to a notorious party school, are employers going to look at you differently? I'm worried about going to any school that has a strong party reputation, because I don't want anyone to think that's my thing (completely the opposite). If you go to a party school, is it inevitable that you'll be associated with that party vibe?

Every college has a party scene, even BYU. Nobody is going to make you participate, even at Chico or UCSB. There are plenty of clubs, etc that don’t center on drinking. The school’s rep is fine with employers.

Have you visited Chico State in person? Do that. Stay over a weekend if you can, and judge for yourself. Gorgeous campus, a true “college town” as the college is immediately adjacent to a very charming downtown. I know a lot of current and recent students there. It’s not hard to avoid the party scene at Chico if you don’t want to party.
