Question about PASS

so I tried planning my schedule using PASS and I came up with this: "You requested a schedule containing PSY 202, MATH 141, IME 101, IME 140.

Of the 180 possible ways those classes could be scheduled, all were rejected due to time conflicts.

This may have been the result of your availability settings or section selections. Please check your schedule criteria and try again."

Those are the classes that’re on my weekly schedule, but now, I can’t seem to have a schedule made because of time conflicts. What should I do? I’m attending SOAR the 12th.

Thanks

Don’t worry about it too much. If you are all ready scheduled in those classes, then it will probably work out fine. It would be very strange if all the times conflicted since more then one section of each class is usually offered. At SOAR they will probably give you a copy of your schedule and if it isn’t working out, you’ll be able to talk to someone there about it.

Yes! Freshmen do not use PASS right now for the first quarter. The schedule is made for you. You will have a chance to try and make changes after August 17th. I am sure that is why it wasn’t working for you.

You will learn more when you attend SOAR. They have advisors available, but they really didn’t help kids with specific questions about their current schedule. They helped students learn how to use the web site for registration for next quarter. Then it will get tricky!

The way my daughter is using PASS right now is to find some classes she would like to add to her schedule. She can check (manually) to see if a class is in conflict with her block schedule, and can see if there are open spots available. She was also looking to swap times of some of her block assigned classes (she ended up with a huge load on Wed). She has found a few 1 and 2 unit courses she wants to add and plans to sign up for them after the 17th. This is one example of how you can use PASS now.

My son has a huge load on Mon and especially Wed. Thanks for the tip about using PASS to look for possible classes that can be added or switched. As it is, he would have to eat dinner at 3:30 or wait until after his 8:00pm class! he has 10 hours of classes on Wed, but only 1 hour on TThand F. The problem is that the labs are only available on Wed. He may just need to deal with it the best he can. Last year a friend or ours had a simialr problem and he couldn’t get it changed. It is smart to have a plan for trying though!

Momofmv, we have almost exactly the same problem on Wed. We tried lots of combinations but could not find a way to eliminate the Wednesday spike. In her case she gets every Friday off…so that makes the schedule more bearable.

They will certainly feel great after Wednesdays are over! Having Friday off is nice, but I’m sure she would rather have a class on Friday and a shorter day on Wednesday. Sorry she couldn’t get a combination of classes to make it a lighter day. I am guessing that many students will have the same problem.
