Question about Peddie

For any current Peddie student...what kinds of clothing should one pack in preparation for special dress down days, like the Spirit Week right before Blair Week?? I hear there are things like a PJ day, Clash Day, School Spirit Day...could you describe them?
I just want to know so I won't be caught off guard and miss out...

Haha, I can help you with this one. The days change every year but blue and gold day is a classic, in general you should bring a good amount of blue and gold clothes. PJ day is always there, I’m not sure we have clash day anymore, there was a farmer day once. They have decade day every year (seniors get 80’s, junior’s 70’s, soph 60’s, frosh 50’s, teachers 90’s). They usually run a target bus the week before though. Other than that, generally the Peddie look is preppy, you can wear t-shirts though as long as they have no logos on them. Most pants are fine as long as they’re not made of denim.
You won’t miss out on anything, everyone at Peddie is extremely generous and sharing. Even if you can’t buy specific clothes for special event days there are always others around to help out! Just enjoy your time there!

My d bought most of her blue and gold clothes at the Peddie store: always great sweatshirts and tons of Peddie t-shirts, etc.

She really did get into this aspect of school life—there really is a great spirit on that campus. She also goes on the Target runs to get “specialty items.” You really will be set by just showing up!

There is something called Family Style Dinner (2 X per week). The kids voted to bring back the more formal dress for these dinners. I have a girl, and she wears a lot of dresses to Family Style. She NEVER wore dresses before, and now she has tons! I think you are male, so I think you need a guy’s perspective on this one. I am not sure what the dress code is for the boys for family style.

As you know, you can’t wear blue jeans to classes, etc. Peddie kids can tell you more. I just know what I ended up buying for my d. I can tell you that the kids look great—I love jeans—but when you are on campus—the kids just look a little more together sans jeans. This may sound silly, but I am a mom.

As a proud part of the move to bring back formal family style wear (yay), I can tell you the dress code for boys is pretty similar to class dress. Nice slacks, collared shirt, many choose to wear a jacket, nice shoes.

I would recommend bringing jeans since most students change into them after sports/ family style/ on weekends.

Thank you to both responses, they were a huge help!

5schoolApplicant,
Im a current Peddie freshman and all I can say is if your a guy buy alot of Polo shirts and khaki or black pants. As for the special days, blair week this year involved, PJ day, farmer day, clash day, decade day, freshmen are the 50’s sophomores 60’s etc. and blue and gold day, buy alot of blue and gold. Also every now and then youll get a jeans saturday which everyone! will wear jeans so have a couple of those and now since. About family style, all you have to wear if your a guy is a jacket and a button down shirt and some dress pants, guys occasionally wear ties but not in spring term with this killer heat haha what grade are you coming into?

Hey Peddiekid13,
I sincerely thank you for your post, it’s a tremendous help. (And yes, I am a guy.)
I know several friends who attend Peddie, and the reason I asked you guys this question was to get a second opinion. All of you seem to agree on the same things!
I’ll be an incoming freshman, and I’m super excited to potentially see you!

You know all that old Halloween stuff you have in the back of your closet?

BRING IT. Blair Week is basically Mardi Gras at Peddie, except without the booze or…other stuff. Everyone goes crazy and gets psyched, and it is totally not weird to show up to class with your dinosaur boxers outside your clothes. I’ll be a sophomore next year, and I look forward to seeing you!

LOL. Too bad I don’t dress up for Halloween.

Steal something from a sibling or friend. Dressing up for the Halloween costume party is also a big event, but most people make/put together their own costumes. A friend of mine (an almost 7 foot tall guy) went as Hannah Montana, another group of people went as the cast of Reno 911…

Facbrat is so right on. I picked up my d a week or two ago to bring her home for the summer. She told me that she had just experienced the best year of her life: she loved every moment.

BALANCE is a part of the Peddie motto, and it is really important to balance academics, arts and athletics…whatever your thing is…with the “living” part. She lived like never before. It is like she learned first hand some version of Thoreau’s idea of “living deliberately.”

“live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived…to live deep and suck out all the marrow of life.”

from Walden, by Henry David Thoreau
