question about preppy / big social scene schools

So, the college application process is pretty much over and I feel like I am having second thoughts about where I applied. Too late now, but I need some opinions. I really like the academic aspects of all my schools, but I have a question regarding preppy schools and big social scenes.

Are kids at schools like lehigh, lafayette, dickinson, or holy cross in any "cocky?" and would I feel out of place if I am not a hardcore partier?

i just fixed the typo..

Are kids at schools like lehigh, lafayette, dickinson, or holy cross in any way** "cocky" or "stuck up?" and would I feel out of place if I am not a hardcore partier?

While I'm sure you'll get many comments here from people telling you that "Lehigh is a party school" or "Holy Cross is for snobs," the only opinion that really matters is yours. No one can really answer whether you'll feel comfortable at ANY school except, of course, for YOU.

After you have your admissions in hand, I'd suggest you visit or re-visit each school, talk to students (and by that I mean more than just the tour guide!), and try to arrange to do an overnight stay. That won't give you the full story, of course, but it will give you more information about how YOU feel around the students at these schools.

Another possible tip is to do am INTEREST search at www.livejournal.com to see if there is an online community for each school. Read the archives, see what students talk about, then ask some questions. Another tip: go to each school's website and find the online version of the student newspaper. Read the back archives, do some searches of the archives (parties, drinking, drugs, arrests, fraternities are good keywords) and see what types of articles turn up.

Most of all, trust your instincts about where you feel most comfortable. It's possible to find like-minded students on any campus, but at some schools you may have to work harder to do so. If you're truly worried about whether your list is right for you, it is not too late to send out a few more applications to schools with Feb. deadlines.

Good luck!

Holy Cross does not have a fraternity system and is perhaps not as big a party school as Lehigh with the frat. scene. All are very good schools. But HC-only 1 hour from Boston has better location than the others.
