i'm an african-american student so when i took the psat i selected that one box and i was recently made aware that i am in the top 4,600 out of 130,000 african-american's who took it has anybody heard of scholarships being given for this or this being an important award or does this not matter that much i could quite possibly make it to the next cut

You must be talking about the National Achievement Scholarship Program. This award is very significant.

http://www.nationalmerit.org/nasp.php

The PSAT cutoff for National Achievement normally is around a 195 index score plus having an excellent gpa.

oh well i think i got like 183 ....but i'm from kentucky and that definitely might come in on the regional part considering there aren't that many african-american's. would something like this have the power to like help me get into say stanford the uc's or nyu
my gpa is about a 3.65 but at my school that is a 95/96 average the way they do gpa royally screws us so yea any input is greatly appreciated

When did you take the test and how did you find out you were in the top 4,600? (I'm asking because I took it last year and got a 195 so I'm thinking I might be in as well.)

what do you mean by last year like i took it this past october of my junior year and my principal notified me yesterday

I took it then too. Hopefully I'll hear from my principal or counselor soon.
