I want to order something for my D @ Macy's.com, but they can't tell me which shipping service of three (USPS, UPS and FedEx) they will use. That is decided in the warehouse based on mysterious weight criteria that customer service is not privy to. Now Stanford students have 3 different shipping addresses depending on which service is used, and it's not possible to give alternate shipping addresses when you place the order. What will happen if I give the UPS shipping address (D's box number without "PO Box" on Lasuen) and the warehouse decides to ship via FedEx, which should go to a different location. What will happen to the package?

We had this same problem this week with some books that we ordered via Amazon for my D at Stanford. They couldn’t tell us which service they would use so we gave them the FedEx address. And of course, they shipped them USPS. They haven’t arrived yet so we’re not sure where they will go. This is one of the few “flaws” that we’ve seen at Stanford. Otherwise D is loving her first couple of weeks there.

I talked to someone at Stanford’s FedEx. He said that if a USPS or UPS Stanford address is put on a package that is then shipped via FedEx that the package will still go to FedEx at Stanford and have to be picked up there. It sounds to me like it wouldn’t be returned to sender. I don’t know about if it’s shipped USPS with a FedEx address. Let us know what happens! Did this confusing system arise because they stopped direct delivery to dorms?

Wow! Now you all have me thoroughly confused. According to the Stanford Post Office website theres only two addresses.
For regular mail its as follows:
Name
POBox #
Stanford, CA 94309

(I sent a letter and card on Monday this way and it still hasn’t arrived. Plus I sent two priority mail pkgs, that are deliverable to POBoxes and are due to arrive by Saturday or Monday.)

Then for Fed Ex and UPS its as follows:
Name
531 Lasuen Mall
POBox #
Stanford, CA 94309

(I mailed a care package to this address thats due to arrive on OCT. 10th)

Is the website wrong? Please let me know I have sent so many things this week and so far nothing has arrived so I am concerned. Ugh!!! Meantime my niece in ND got her cards from me yesterday.

Dungareedoll, the problem arrises when you don’t know what mail service is going to be used. Your addresses below should work fine when YOU address the package. But if you order something online and the business doesn’t tell you specifically how the package will be shipped, it’s impossible to know which mailing address to give them. In our case, we gave Amazon the FedEx address and the packages ended up being mailed USPS. They haven’t shown up yet so we aren’t sure how that will work but I’m pretty confident that they’ll get delivered some how?!
