Question about state residency.

I was born and raised in Maryland, however my birth father is a tax paying resident of Virginia. Because he claims me in his taxes every other year do I qualify for in-state tuition in Virginia. Or would my classificaton vary by instituton.

My daughter had a fried who did qualify for instate tuition in both the state she lived in with her Dad and the state her Mom lived in. But I believe this varies from state to state so you would need to check with Virginia.

Of course, you should also check with the college to be sure about your particular circumstances.

Thanks, qualifying as an in-state applicant would definitely improve my chances at some of the public schools down there ;)
