Help me understand this. I know that regular dorms do not allow microwaves. And on the suites description it states that cooking is prohibited in suites. But on the same page (http://www.resnet.umd.edu/housing/aptsuites/) it states: "Residents of suites may not bring or use cooking appliances other than microwave, coffee maker and popcorn popper with an enclosed heating element."

So, anyone have any experience living in a suite (South Campus Commons)? Were you allowed a microwave?

Wait, so are you living in a suite or in Commons? Those are two very different things. Commons are actual apartments with their own kitchen and a 12 month lease which would mean a microwave would be fair game (although it might already have a microwave there) but if you’re in a 9 month suite/apartment in one of the resnet buildings, rules are a bit different since those are through the school but Commons are technically outsourced to a private company.

Well if it was a mistake and you meant south hill, then I would stick to the apt/suites site and believe that microwaves are ok in suites. I’m getting one lol Last semester my roommates and I meant to get one but it just never happened.

If he’s in a suite, the “rules” say that he can’t have a microwave, but it seems strange that they would allow it in some places in the same building (the apartments that actually have kitchens) but not in others.

Well yeah, but the site clearly says “no cooking appliances…other than a microwave” when it comes to suites, so I’m assuming it’s ok. That or it depends on what RA you have.

Dude I live in Garrett next semester too. I remember you PMing me a while back for roomming but it was too late, glad you got an amazing dorm.

I was in a suite before (in the first floor apartments now), and you were allowed to bring a microwave. The proof is even in your quote haha “Residents of suites may not bring or use cooking appliances other than microwave, coffee maker and popcorn popper with an enclosed heating element.”

Just make sure you don’t burn anything in it cause they’ll freak out and call 911. It happened in Cumberland.
