Question about symbolism

<p>What's the purpose of putting Christian/Biblical symbolism in a book? Specifically, in Grapes of Wrath, what is the author's purpose of making Jim Casey a Christ figure, Uncle John floating the baby down the river paralleling Mose's floating down the river etc? </p>

<p>Do these Christian symbols support the idea of hope or rebirth or what? I'm so confused. Thanks.</p>

<p>jsut an estimate: possibly the authors use christian symbols to relate to their readers. a good portion of the world is christian and im sure most people at least know who moses or jesus were no matter what religion.</p>
