hey guys! okay, so I'm a junior and I just signed up for the June 12 ACT. While I was registering, it asked me to choose schools that I wanted to send the scores to after the results came in. Since I'm only a junior, I'm not applying to school until like September-November 2010 (obviously). so if I send the scores right after I take the test, will the colleges actually hold them until I apply next school year? I don't understand why I have to send the scores so early when I'm not even a senior. Please help!

I advise you to not allow ACT to send your scores.
It is better to do it yourself when you are certain which colleges you want to go to.

Yes, they will hold onto your scores until they have an application to match them to.

But if you can afford the fees to send the scores separately, after you’ve seen them and selected the colleges you want to apply to, I’d recommend doing that, even though sending a certain number of score reports is included in your ACT registration fee. Obviously, it costs less to send the free (well, “included in the price”) score reports now, rather than paying an extra fee per college later. But if you’re disappointed in the results of the June ACT–and of course, I hope you’ll be pleased–you might prefer just to sit on those scores and never send them to any colleges.

Yes, colleges will hold scores until they receive an app, but as others have noted, if you can afford to send them later: WAIT. Use Score Choice, so you can send your best score. Also, check with your HS to see if they put test scores on transcripts. If they do, don’t list your HS either.
