I took the ACT test last October and met with my counselor to talk about it. He suggested that I send my scores to some schools I'm interested when I take it in February. I'm a junior so I obviously haven't applied anywhere...

So I'm just wondering if that's normal to do? I know there are 4 free ones so he said I should send them and they may waive the application fee? It's kind of confusing.

I have three boys that sent scores as early as Fall of their Junior years. As long as you score well, there is no harm in getting schools to add you to their mailing list.
Assuming you retake tests and send new scores to some of the same schools, they will see if your scores improve.

yeah I was wondering about the same thing…I am giving my test in april but I’ll be applying in december. Will it be al right if I send the scores in April?

There is no harm in selecting the schools to send scores when you register on line. I have not checked the test web pages in a while. I’m sure you can send scores after the test but I don’t recall the deadline to qualify for “free” score reports.

hmm i just got scores back today. its the first time i’ve taken the sat so should i wait until i take it again to choose which scores to send to schools? or should i just send them now? btw i’m a junior and i was somewhat satisfied with my scores

If you send scores before you apply to college, they will set up a file for you and then when app comes in it will be matched to the scores. You could use your free sends for any upcoming test by listing four colleges where provided in the application. That saves you money having to send them after a score comes out such as later when you apply and for ACT the charge is $10 per score per college.

However, the downside to doing that is that you will not know your sore when the score is sent by ACT (which actually occurs about a day before you even learn of your score on-line). Many like to to wait to send scores until after they know what they are.

Thus, the advantage of using the free sends is purely financial. Otherwise there is no benefit to sending your scores before you need to in fall of senior year.

If as in jo70pe’s case, you now have your Jan SAT scores. You really have no reason to send them now since it will cost you to do so and you can wait to include them in a send of any future SAT or SAT II test and use the free sends for doing so if you want to save money.
