I want to ask my 11th grade AP U.S. teacher for a recommendation because I think she really likes me, but I do not want to go into the social studies field at all. I was originally going to ask my English teacher because once I am in the college that I choose, I want to declare a double major (English), but that probably won't be a factor when applying to colleges because I want to put down my major as computer science. Anyway, I was wondering if it is alright if I ask my S.S. teacher or if it is better to ask an English teacher (even though it may be a lesser recommendation) if I hope to one day also major in English? Thanks!

I’d say social studies and English are probably just as irrelevant to computer science than the other, so choose the one who would write the better recommendation. In this case the social studies teacher.

A lot of colleges require 2 recommendations. You might consider one of each type – get one from your social studies or English teacher (whichever would write the strongest recommendation), and then get one from a math or science teacher if you have someone on that side who would write a strong one.

You may invite both and even more teachers. If on CommonApp, you can assign different teachers to different school. You don’t really need a teacher from major related field, but it is prefer red to have teachers from different core.
