Does JHU mix and match SAT I scores? Do they take the best scores from one sitting or best scores from each section over all tests? Thanks.

I would also like to know (bump)

I don't think the info is on their website - email the admissions officer for your state and ask him/her

JHU Admissions does "mix and macth" -- looking at your best scores for each section of the SATs even if taken on different dates. So if you score high on verbal and math on one exam but higher on writing on another exam, they will combine for your highest possible score. Do note though that combined scores will not occur between old SATs (1600 max) and new SATs (2400 max).

You can always call the Admissions Office at JHU when you have questions like these. I have actually worked as a student employee for Admissions this past year answering phone calls and e-mails. We are more than willing to answer any questions. Call us 410-516-8171 or e-mail gotojhu@jhu.edu.

What sort of SAT II scores makes an application competitive? Are there scores so low that it drops you out of contention?

laxfan04, does Hopkins have any students actually working in the admissions process (ie reading apps) like many other schools do? just wondering..

tanman, no the students who work in the Admissions Office do not read files. The only people who read and evaluate files at Hopkins are the Admissions Counseling staff.

I've never heard of schools where students read applications, and thinking about that I'm not sure if actually like that. I'd hope schools would train the people who read apps. and not have some student doing it, unless they were a senior on an internship -- but even then it sounds a bit sketchy. Maybe Im just clueless....oh well.

By the way, students who work in the Admissions Office help with PR (answering phones, responding to e-mails), Operations (data entry, opening mail, putting files together), or the Counseling Staff (assistants to the adcoms). You can also always volunteer to give tours, help with recruitment events, and when a junior or senior you can apply to become an AR and interview.

good luck.
