I will be a 2011 Freshman and want to try to get a dorm in one of the Towers.
Is there any difference between the 3 of them?
Are there any that are mostly freshman?
Is one preferable over the other for some reason?
Are there any advantages to a particular floor plan over the others?

Thanks

I think Tower IV is reserved for Honors students only. The rest are all the same in terms of general layout. I’m taking a private tour tomorrow, so I’ll post any new info I get.

Since the Towers require a 3 semester lease (Fall, spring, summer) I guess most kids pay $2,300 for a summer and the dorm goes empty?

There are actually 4 Towers, but the layout of the rooms in all of them is closely identical (other than rooms in specific places, like corners).

All housing on campus (excluding the Nike/Hercules apartments) are mostly freshman; upperclassmen tend to move out after their first year.

The only preference between the different Towers is that Tower 3 is the Honors Tower. However, non-honors students can still room with friends who are in Tower 3.

The floor plans do not seem to really matter. The individual rooms are the same size, and each has a sizeable (but small) living area and kitchen.

Most students who decide to live in the Towers are looking to take summer classes without the hassle of having to move in and out of different housing.

SlyjayKnight is correct. Towers III is reserved for Honors students as well as Honors student’s friends who may want to room there, but are not a part of the program. All the Towers are exactly the same as far as room set up – other than the bathroom situation. the 4 bed./2 bath is slightly less expensive than the 4 bed./4 bath. The lease is for three semesters which is great re: not having to move out at the end of Spring semester and move in again for Fall semester – but that is if you are only planning to stay in the same exact room. Be prepared to do something “educational” over the Summer semesters as you are paying rent for your Tower’s room.

The only real hassle as far as living in Towers is the moving-in/moving-out process. The elevators are slow – and if you are on the 7th floor (penthouse) - you have no choice but to wait for the elevators. Be sure to bring a good dolly with you during the move so you can make less trips.

Parking for Towers are in the Towers garage. The cost is higher than for other garages/lots on campus - but you get the benefit of your own spot in a covered garage.

Good luck with your decision.
