I’m currently a Senior planning to apply a bunch of nursing schools including CSULB, UCI, UCLA.
I was wondering for a school like CSULB, whose nursing program is not direct admission (meaning you need to take prerequisites before applying to the program at their school), will I be able to fulfill the prerequisites they ask for by taking
classes at my local CC this summer? Here are the prerequisites:
CHEM 140 General, Organic, and Biochemistry (5)
BIOL 207 Human Physiology (4)
BIOL 208 Human Anatomy (4)
MICR 200 General Microbiology for Health Professional
English Composition,
STAT 108 (Quantitative Reasoning)
Oral Communication
Critical Thinking
Also, chance me for all three nursing programs? Below are my stats.
Grades:
4.272 UC GPA (10-11) / 4.150 Weighted/ 1920 SAT (One last chance in November hopefully 2,100+)
AP Scores: AP Eng 5, APUSH 5, AP Pscyh 5
Senior Year Courses:
AP Calc AB
AP Stats
AP Lit
AP Gov/ AP econ
Accounting
Extracurriculars:
Partnership with Business Project Chair FBLA (2 years)
Red Cross Member (4 years)
Volunteer @Hospital (Nursing Administration) (3 years)
Vice President of Key Club (2 years)
If you get accepted to CSULB, it means you take those classes as an undergrad there, before applying to that school’s nursing program.
Summer at CC usually means one to three classes over about 8 weeks, and not all classes are offered. Sometimes 4 week classes are offered. You can try attending multiple CCs concurrently. The point is, they don’t expect you to take all those prerequisites in one summer session.
@Allude - Here’s a link to the roadmap for nursing at CSULB. Many of the classes you have mentioned (the prerequisites) are among the classes you would be required to take during your first 2 years. They do recommend two summer classes (and it probably would be wise to take them the summer after you graduate from high school). http://web.csulb.edu/divisions/aa/catalog/current/roadmaps/chhs/nrsg/nrsgbs01-4yr.html
