Hello all. For the past two years I have attended a community college here in California. I didn't know what I wanted to major in so I just completed all the classes on the IGETC worksheet.

This past semester I decided I wanted to major in accounting. I'll be taking another semester or two here at the CC and registration for classes starts on the 2nd. Problem is, I don't know what classes to take. I'm thinking about taking classes that lead up to an Associate's Degree, but I don't think that they'll transfer over to a UC or CSU. On assist.org I looked up the accounting program for UC Irvine and there are 7 classes that I need to take. The website tells you the equivalent classes at the CC. For example, one of the classes is MGMT 30A and the equivalent class at the CC is Accounting 230. So I could take these 7 classes and hope that UC Irvine accepts me. But what if they don't? If I'm accepted to another UC, wouldn't I have to start from the beginning to get a degree in accounting?

I'm just really confused about the lower division prep work for majors and how the transfer process is factored into the equation. And don't even get me started on transferring to out of state schools, lol.

I might see a counselor tomorrow but I'd like to hear what you guys think.

A lot of the pre-reqs for the schools overlap. UCSB and Davis’ programs do anyway.

assist.org if you havent already

this is how i went about it. first i picked the school i wanted to go to the most. my #1 goal was to complete as most of those pre reqs as possible for that one school. schools in the same system (UC’s or CSU’s) generally have similar requirements for similar programs. I’m sure there is another school out there that will have the exact same pre-reqs. other schools will have very similar pre-reqs with 1 or 2 different classes. make those your back-up schools and those 1 or 2 additional pre reqs priority #2.

my major is aerospace engineering and at the time UCLA was my #1 school so i aimed to complete all their pre-reqs. UCI had the same pre-reqs so that was my backup. i also applied to UCD and UCSD just because of the application fee waiver. so the pre-reqs i completed didn’t match up to UCD or UCSD very well at all. i got rejected from UCLA but got into UCI which was a good situation for me because if i went there then i would be on track with all pre-reqs completed. also, i got rejected from davis but still managed to get into SD. so even though i didn’t meet the pre-reqs for other schools it was good that i applied to them anyways. in my situation everything worked out great and I’m glad i applied to more schools just for the heck of it because over time UCSD became my #1 choice

so did you have to take those classes again at UCSD since you didn’t meet the pre-reqs?
