Question about transferring.

What's up. I figure my first post here will be somewhat long but I have a few questions. Right now, I'm going to Indiana University of Pennsylvania. To be frank, it sucks. I hate everything about the school. On the other hand, the tuition is extremely cheap, but hopefully I can get some financial aid from whatever college I apply to next.

First, when applying to transfer, would my chances of being accepted to a certain college be affected in any way by if I have already previously been accepted by that college? I have a couple in mind, but the foremost is Tulane. I know for a fact that Tulane has gotten a ton more interest than the year I applyed, so would this make any difference?

I recently applied to Pitt. I was rejected my first time round, and I was rejected yet again. My dad works there tho. :(

Anyways, what are my chances of getting into the following colleges?

3.5 college gpa
2.8 high school gpa
1470/1600 SAT
32 ACT

Tulane (already accepted once, not sure if this matters)
Pitt (rejected me twice, but an admissions person called me today and encouraged me to apply again for a future semester)
Penn State
Maryland-College park
Iowa (both parents=alum)

I'm majoring in econ...are there any schools I should look into?

Thanks a ton guys!

Oh yeah...another thing.

My mom decided to not file for the FAFSA, for some odd reason. Will I be eligible for any financial aid spring semester or am I screwed

1470 and a 32 paired with a 2.8...Unfortunately, that just screams laziness and wasted potential. I think the 3.5 helps. I think you should have a shot at all of these schools.

thanks man, hopefully i get luckier

I've heard that University of Minnesota has a good econ dept.

Yeah, maybe the adcom at Pitt couldnt get past your hs numbers? But anyway, as long as you keep your gpa up heading into sophomore year(i.e. a junior transfer), you should get accepted to most of those schools. Be sure to have the usual college EC's, recs, etc. to go along with it. I think you should focus on getting your gpa a bit higher if you want to ease your worrying.

Why is your gpa low while your act/sat score is very high?

I second University of Minnesota.

Out-of-State tuition there is pretty reasonable at around 14k a year (in-state is like 10k)

Having been accepted previously to a school usually bodes well for transfer acceptance, in my observation. No guarantees but, yes, it is a good sign.

IDK re financial aid, though.

If you got accepted with a 2.8 coming out of high school at Tulane, then I think you're in pretty good shape with a 3.5.
