I've read that at Tufts it's extremely difficult not to be a devoted liberal. As I tend to have more conservative points of view, do you think this is true / a problem? I would never decide which school to go to based on political views, but i desperately need to trim my list, so if I get the impression that I would be attacked for stating my opinions, I won't bother applying. (Not that I want a super-conservative school, just one where all viewpoints are respected). However, there are many things about Tufts that I really like, so I wanted to check on this before crossing it off my list.

Actually, Tufts has the infamous (or famous depending on who likes to see it that way) Primary Source, the journal of conservative thought on campus. They mix in humor with conservatism, giving an interesting approach to selling their messages (they take their fair share of shots at Bush too). It is true that 82% (I think) of the campus voted for Kerry and a marginal percentage voted for Bush, but a lot of people are moderates despite the black and white votes for either candidate. Many do shy away from conservative viewpoints, but the conservatives do hold a voice on campus. No one ever violently attacks or harasses anyone else for being conservative, but most people on campus respect the fact that viewpoints are different. However, do be prepared for intellectual debate since a lot of the liberals love a good ideological showdown.
