I've read that at Tufts it's extremely difficult not to be a devoted liberal. As I tend to have more conservative points of view, do you think this is a problem? I would never decide which school to go to based on political views, but i desperately need to trim my list, so if I get the impression that I would be attacked for stating my opinions, I won't bother applying. (Not that I want a super-conservative school, just one where all viewpoints are respected). However, there are many things about Tufts that I really like, so I wanted to check on this before crossing it off my list.

Hi Kit416,

I think you can be conservative at Tufts, we do have a conservative publication - Primary Sources. Furthermore, Tufts Republican are a small, but a very vocal group. I personally never had a problem with taking a conservative stance on an issue. Overall, Tufts may not embrace a conservative with open arms, but it is very tolerant of alternative views.

It is true that Tufts is a very liberal school. There are, however, conservative students who go here, and you'll find that most people respect your opinions even if they don't agree with them.

thanls for the response. I think I am going to apply, because there are a lot of things that I do really like. I was jsut worried that this would be too big an issue, but it seems it isnt. Thanks again.

honestly it doesn't even matter.

it may be a fairly active school politically, but no where near as active as it would need to be to influence your life there in any way.

there are plenty of conservative kids here, and alot of the liberals just choose to be that way without really looking into the issues they are arguing over.
