Question about UC system GPA

I know its something along the lines of, ignore freshman year, A's are 4's, B's are 3's, add up to 8 honors points, but I don't see how people are getting those 4.4+'s

If you take 30 credit of classes (6 classes, 2 semesters per year, + half semester of senior year), thats (30*4+8)/30 = 4.26 gpa. Yet the average weighted for UCB CoE is something like 4.4+, how is that possible? Or am I missing something?

In high school, regular class are 4 credits, AP and honor classes are 5 credits.
Regular: A=4; B=3; C=2; D=1; F=0
AP/Honor: A=5; B=4;C=3;D=2;F=1
For one semester, if you have 4 AP classes and 3 regular classes and get all A’s, then you have (45 + 34)/7= 4.57

So its just however many honors you have, not max of 8?

Yes.
Also, there is weighted and unweighted GPA.
You calculate weighted by the method provided.
You calculate unweighted by using A=4; B=3; C=2 D=1 for all class
