Question about UCI Transfer

I'm currently attending a CCC and my GPA is roughly 2.7. I'm working really hard to pull it up to at least a 3.0. I am a Biological Sciences major and I read that the requirement GPA wise is a minimum of 3.0. My main concern however, is not so much the total GPA, but rather certain grades. This is what it states on the UCI Transfer site:

Required:
one year of general chemistry with laboratory with a grade of "B" or better in each course and a cumulative GPA of 3.0

I'm currently taking the second half of general chem and struggling for the C and I got a C for the first half. So I am really worried about that. Has anybody got any personal experience where you were actually accepted even though you got a C? And for others, what do you think about this? What is my chance of getting accepted?

Hate to burst your bubble...

I had a friend in the exact same position - same gpa, bio major, C in 1st semester gen. chem. When he asked the UCI rep about that C before applying, she said they absolutely wouldn't let him in cuz of that C, even though he got a B second semester. Sure enough, he didn't get in.

Maybe if you got your gpa up to 3.0? My friend's stayed around 2.7-2.8 through the fall semester he applied.

I know a friend who got into UCLA with a C in general chemistry I and B in Gen. Chem. II. He had a high overall gpa though, with an engineering major. He was accpeted to UCI too, but he chose UCLA.
So don't lose hope. just work hard to get a B in your second semester.

However Annubes,

UCI requires B grades or higher in both semesters of gen. chem for the biological sciences major, whereas the engineering majors do not.

thanks everybody for the helpful responses. I'll just keep at it for now and see what I can do.
