As I am filling out my common app, I am really looking for ways to stand out among other applicants. I have great test scores and grades, but the schools I am applying to are all quite selective.

As a future computer science major, I considered writing my essay in "code". Hopefully it would still retain the depth of information found in a more traditional essay, but perhaps with a little more personality. Would something like this (provided that the message itself is still quite strong, and I am not relying on the code to cover up poor writing) help me stand out, or is it too risky? Thank you for any advice!

I’m not sure I fully understand, but it seems really risky unless you’re applying to a specific major. It seems like it could be hard for someone without a CS background to read, and words that don’t tell anything about you would take up needless space in your word count. I’m not sure how you could write it in code while still showing your theoretically strong command of the English language. I appreciate your idea, but I personally I don’t think it would work well for a college essay.
