So it turns out that most of the schools that I'm applying to really like the common app. That's fine and dandy, but it puts me in a weird position. I'm kind of a quirky person and wanted an essay that would reflect that. I came up with what I think is a great idea for a common app essay (topic of your choice option), but people told me that it's too "weird" to be used for the common app. Is it not worth it to write a quirky essay for the common application?

it depends on what you call quirky. it seems that many "quirky" essays are quite common and most sound forced and uninspired. it seems that many people that try to be quirky and unique end up not accurately describing themselves effectively. just be honest, show do not tell and write something that will make them want you. what topic were you thinking of, you can pm if you want.

I'm sending you a PM.

Your idea may seem "quirky" or "weird" to some, but if it seems natural to you, a "good fit" for your personality, then try writing a draft.

Yeah, I agree with the above; it really depends, while some "quirky" topics don't work, some are really effective if they reveal a lot about you and your uniqueness.

But I'm really not sure what you mean by "quirky" so..
