So I know that for waitlists, if a person drops before a waitlist is processed, then you can drop yourself from the waitlist and add the class. But I've also heard that sometimes they block registration to prevent people from doing that. Is the latter part true? and does it apply to chem3b lecture this spring?

haha, i highly doubt if that can occur for a class like Chem 3B. Besides, the class is a manual waitlist and it would just accept the next person of the list in priority of class level and then automatic position as the next criteria, I would think.

what number are you on the waitlist? im #136, ■■■ :/

I was under the impression that manual waitlists are processed by people.

Yeah its a manual waitlist so theoretically, if someone drops and the waitlist isn’t processed yet, couldn’t I just add myself into that empty spot?

No. Telebears doesn’t work like that. As long as there is a waitlist, you are added to the waitlist.

Hmm ok then. I guess they changed it since my friend told me that’s how she got into 3A lab last year. She was at the end of the waitlist with no chance of getting in until someone dropped the class and she dropped herself from the waitlist and added the class again to take the open spot.

Chem 3A is a special case - they “centralize” the waitlist (they have 3 sections with the same timing, and only one has a waitlist, the rest are set to zero). In this case if someone drops from the no-waitlist section, you can just add.

I did precisely this to get into Chem 3AL this sem :)

Most courses don’t have such a strange system, though.
