I am currently waitlisted #1 for a class that has seats reserved for nutri sci majors and open seating (which is currently full). If a spot opens up from a person who got in based on open seating, would I automatically get the spot or would a nutri sci major that is waitlisted behind me get priority over me? Is it up to the department?

Similar question here. I really want to find out. I am waitlisted #7 for a psych class. thanks guys!

if you’re number 1, you’ll get in eventually…

it is truly up to the professor and the department how they manage manual waitlists. It is only with automatics that the order of the waitlist really matters, otherwise they can implement whatever policy they wish - seniors first, people they like first, high GPAs over low GPAs, people with stronger backgrounds first, . . .

if it’s manual, they’ll let all the major people in before they let others in
but you’ll get in if you are number 1
