So in the requirements for graduation they state that you have to have x number of courses in a category. What exactly is that? Like if 1A is one single course, and if the requirement is 3, then taking 1A-C satisfies that. Can someone clarify for me please?

Yes you have it correct, a course is 1 individual class like 1A.
1A-1B-1C is a sequence and if it is listed with dashes in the catalogue they are usually offered in sequence(something like fall-winter-spring for most) and you must take the sequence in order.

If they are like 9A, 9B, 9C (comma separation) then they can be taken in any order but each one is still an individual class.

Cool, thanks. I’m just trying to plan out my schedule early and the course catalog is a little confusing. That part about dashes and commas was something I didn’t know about haha.

There are quite a few exceptions, but a typical course is 4 units. 12 units is full time, and 15 units/quarter is “normal” progress. So figure on taking about 4 classes.
