Question concerning scheduling for returning students

Hey, I have a question. D's already done up her schedule for fall semster: orgo 1, pchem, bio2 w/ lab, some chemE course (energy balances, or something like that), professional seminar for chemE. However, she's decided she wants to drop the Bio (she already has AP credit for it anyway), and she'd like to take just plain ol' psych 2012. She's getting involved with a Prof's research project in the fall and she's going to get credit for that, so she'd really like to drop the bio/lab and have more availability for the research project. Now, psy2012 is full, and yes ... we know to keep watching in case a seat opens up. But this is what we were wondering for all you returning students. Can you watch for sections to open up during the preview times and get a seat that way, or are you restricted from drop/add during that time as a returning student. Thanks!!!

I think you can watch for them all summer but I think they save seats in certain classes for preview attendees so the availability wouldn’t show up for you. Maybe after all the preview sessions they open the remainder to everyone.

That said, if PSY2012 is not a course so highly-demand by freshmen that they’re saving it (I would say it probably is though if it’s an intro to psych class since many people choose that major, I imagine) then you should still be able to grab it all summer long.

According to the Registrar’s Office, you can register March 29 -August 10, August 12-18. I have always been able to change classes during the summer, so I guess that’s about right.

And I don’t think they restrict returning students from signing up for classes as they open up but I do know they hold some sections 'till Preview starts.

^^^
Thanks, guys. I guess that’s what I was wondering … if she looks at the preview dates, picks the morning of the second day when everyone schedules, if she then might see a section open up during that time that she might grab a slot in. I guess we’ll find out soon enough, right? :)
