Question for __allie__

I want you personal opinion please. Iam wondering what my chances are for Berkeley from a CCC as a philosophy major.

I am applying with a 3.923 gpa, however i do have 3 W's and 1 W in a non transferable class. i got the other 3 W's because of scheduling issues because I had a cancelled class (due to low enrollement) and my schedule got messed up. I do plan to address the issue in my personal essay. I also have decent Ec's, volunteer work, awards, and employment. I am also a member of TAP, but for berkeley there tap programs are designed to help minority students compared to the one at UCLA.

Aw a question just for me. So very exciting.

Let me start off by saying that I'm not nearly as knowledgable about Berkeley as I am about LA because LA has been my main focus of research over the past couple years. However, I can't imagine that you'd have a difficult time getting in with such a high GPA, especially as a philosophy major.

Unfortunately, TAP seems to help very little with Berkeley and I know that a lot of schools are working towards getting a more solid contract with them. I definitely agree with your decision to address your Ws in the personal statement. Im not entirely sure about how they look at withdrawls, but UC representatives generally say that they expect students to have 1 or 2. I can't speak on whether or not this is the truth, but it seems encouraging.

Over the past 2 years, I've certainly seen people get into Berkeley with worse stats. I suggest looking into Berkley's point system to see how you'll be ranked. I don't know where this is specifically located, but I recall seeing articles linked about it on the old board. Google is your best bet.

Thanks Allie. I appreciate it.
