Question for any admissions officer ...

We live in Florida and so we have access to bright futures for full tuition for DD. Anyway, she would like to ultimately go to pharmacy school. The only pharmacy school in Florida that we are considering is at University of Florida, but that would be after 2-4 years of undergrad, depending if she applies before she gets her degree or not, which you can do for pharmacy (after achieving the pre-reqs). Now, here's the scenario:

University of Florida does not offer the generous merit aid that UCF or FSU offers. So, let's say in the event that she's offered generous merit money from UCF or FSU, she decides to not go to UF (even if offered admission). At some point she'll want to appy to UF's pharmacy school. Will they look negatively at the fact that she turned down UF for undergrad and chose another school or will that not factor into the equation at all? Obviously, we're trying to maximize opportunity as well as stretch dollars as far as we can so we'd like to know what might be on the minds of adcoms with this scenario. Or ... is it a situation where the pharmacy school might not ever know that she'd been offered undergrad admission to their institution?

Is this all clear as mud?

Thanks!

I can't say specifically but most graduate school admissions committees are completely independent of what the colleges do. The best thing to do would be to speak to someone at the Pharm grad school admissions dept. but I think you have nothing to worry about.

Don't know about the Florida schools but the Flagship State U in my state (UConn) will not even consider applicants to the School of Pharmacy who did not complete the Pre-Pharm program at UConn. Admission to the professional phase of the PharmD program is very competitive...

The other major university in Tallahassee, FAMU, has a good pharmacy program. A relative of mine graduated from FSU and was promptly admitted to the FAMU pharmacy program, from which he graduated.

He is licensed in both Florida and Georgia and can easily earn $70 per hour in retail practice.

Maybe this will be of some use... ;)

I'll probably call and check with the UF pharmacy school and see what I can find out. Parent2Noles, we've looked at FAMU, but it's been having accredidation issues, eventhough they were just re-accredited thru 2010.
