question for current college park scholar

I got into the college park scholors but I still don't really understand anything about it. Anyone in the program now who could answer questions?
I really want to know about living in the specific dorms and the social life the scholars have and if it is prestigous at all. If anyone knows anything about these topics please respond!

hi zoe--i'm not in scholars but i have a bunch of friends who are. i'm not sure who from UMD on this board is in scholars, so i'll talk to my friends and reply again later with some answers for you :)

alright thanks a lot!

okay. here's the deal with the dorms: the two high rises (cumberland & centerville) are just like any other high rises. the other three (bel air, chestertown, and cambridge) are smaller and easier to get to know people in. which dorm you're placed in depends on what program you're in. from a friend in bel air [arts program]: "we have less people so it was a lot easier to meet people and make friends. we tend to hang out together and since we've all got colloquium together we go to that at the same time."

social life: to quote one of my friends: "we do everything!!" the social life of someone in scholars (or honors, etc) is the same as any other university student. it's basically what you make of it how involved you want to get socially. lots of students in fraternities & sororities are in living-learning programs. you aren't separated at all.

another quote: "i don't think it could be called prestigious. it's a great program but there are a lot of students in it. people that aren't in scholars are impressed by it but once we're inside, we don't get a big head about being in a 'special' program".

my opinion, being in the living-learning programs here is GREAT. i've loved honors, i know that my friends like the opportunities they've gotten from scholars. people don't get big heads, and people also don't get made fun of by those not in the program. it is respectable to be intelligent here, and a program like scholars is a great way to live and have class with some other students like you.

alright, thank you so much! that was really helpful. i definitely think i want to do it
