Question for current UMich transfer students

To everyone that transferred to UMich and has completed at least one semester of course work:

How much did you have to change your study habits, as oppose to how much you studied at your past university? Was the course work alot more difficult, and what about the workload? Any insight would be awesome. Thanks guys.

Well, after coming from GVSU and pulling 3.9 to 4.0 without thinking, I had to change my study habits quite a bit. GVSU vis-a-vis U of M is VERY different in demands though. This last semester I pulled a 3.92 with 18 credits but it took MANY late nights and some seriously intense Sundays. At GVSU I was used to doing 5-10 page papers, and, for example, I had a 25 page paper due in one course here at U of M. Of course, your own experience will vary based on your previous school's demands, your abilities, your major, etc.

My counselor at my transfer orientation suggested I take 12 or so credits--a lighter load--my first semester here and that was exceptional advice to acclimate to study habits without doing some unwanted damage to GPA, adjusting to social life, etc.

My advice would be don't come in intimidated by the school, the students, or the workload. If you're bright and diligent, you'll be fine.

Good luck.
