Question for Deferreds

OK, my D (deferred CALS) checks her status all the time and it has always said they have everything they need for financial aid, etc. Suddenly today they said they needed another form from her. It is the 2009-2010 Verification Worksheet for Dependent Students. It asks her to fill in her Cornell student ID # (which of course she does not have, yet at least).

Is this something all deferreds have been asked to do or should she take it as a sign? Grasping at straws I know. LOL!

No it’s not… I was deferred and my app status did not recognize my password, it came up with an error. Then, I went to check that page where we got decisions ED and it said that my application was NOT SUBMITTED. What is going on!!! I emailed the Help Desk…

Financial Aid contacting you has seemed to be a sign of impending acceptance, SVMMom, the straws you’re grasping at could very well be real.
I’m just expecting a rejection on 3/31, nothing more.

I was also asked for that information (deferred from CAS) but since the admissions office and financial aid office work seperately, I don’t think it’s indicative of much at this point. Esp. since deferred applicants aren’t supposed to hear back until the 31st.

Chandler: Aw, don’t say you’re going to get rejected! The only thing you can do between now and the end of the month is think positively. With thoughts like that, you’re negatively manifesting your destiny!

Anyways, I wish the best of luck to all RD and deferred applicants at this time. I keep having nightmares that Dwight Schrute is screaming, “CORNELL CALLED–THEY SAID YOU SUCK!” at me. Let’s hope it’s not a recurring motif in my dreams after the 31st!!!

Sorry I don’t mean to be “this” guy, but Financial Aid and decisions are completely separate. Even if you were rejected or deferred, Cornell Fin Aid will ask for documents to make sure that in the case that you do get accepted they will be ready to make a fin aid package for you. They are both separate institutions.

^DRMAN, you’re totally right but I actually heard of a few cases at Williams and Dartmouth that kids got likely letters/early acceptances about a week after being contacted by Financial Aid for missing documents.
It could be a good sign.

Let’s make this into a deferred commiseration thread! It’s been a while since December 11th.

This wait has been the most painful thing ever!!!

Still pulling for ya Chandler. Bet you get in.

Chandler - I got the same thing. I could log into the app status, but when I logged into the with the decisions it said "not submitted’. :(

I’m in the same boat as Chandlerbing and ImReachingForIt… I’m scared… :(

Hmm… You’re supposed to get another ID and password to check your decision during the regular round. Don’t freak out…

Hi,
we all went through that last year. F/A contacted a lot derferred canidates after the fact. We all kept hoping… what came out of it for some.?. … a Gt offer . Just my experience

Does CAS give out GT offers? I haven’t seen any on here. I am just stressed because I was deferred from CAS and I fear waitlist is in my future.

OK, just got off the phone with the financial aid dept. and they gave me more straws to grasp at. Tell me if this has happened to anyone else.

I called to ask what number to put in the spot that asks for Conell Student ID #. When I asked the women, and then told her my D had not been accepted yet, she was suddenly very silent. Then she kinda stumbled on her words and said let me look up her info. She went on the system and came up with a number and told me to write it in that space. It is a 7 digit # that starts with 213. HMMM. What is this number?

They also want us to fill out and send in another form. This is IRS form 4506-T titled: Request for Transcript of Tax Return. This is to request an official copy from the government of our tax returns even though we already sent them a copy of our returns. Did anyone else have to do this?

I’ll give you another straw to grab at…Cornell student ID numbers are 7 digits :-P

Ok…that little tease aside…I really do hope everything works out for your daughter…I remember your posts from a while back and she sounds like she would be a great addition to the Cornell community :)

Now was that a total tease or are they really 7 digits?

Thanks, I know she would be very happy there. She did a sleep over there and went to classes and she said it felt like home.

No teasing there…Cornell ID # is 7 digits

oooh, SVMom, requesting an official copy of a tax return can only be positive. (Otherwise, they’d be wasting their time.) Here’s holding out hope for your D.

Do they generate a Cornell ID for every applicant each year?

I have now scoured every scrap of paper and e-mail from Cornell and have not found a number remotely corresponding to the SEVEN DIGIT number they gave me. I am starting to get excited.

Also, I have read that AFTER a student is accepted they are then asked to verify their information. I mean, we are talking the government here. I am sending in the form tomorrow to the IRS, but lord knows when they will send the transcript. Why would Cornell ask for this other than to confirm her financial aid that they are going to give her?

I know I could be deluding myself here, but I do think it is very positive.

Has anyone else been asked to get a transcript of their taxes from the IRS?

You are deluding yourself.

As has been stated numerous times before, the financial aid office and the admissions office are two separate and self-governing entities.

It would be more likely an indicator they think you’ve committed fraud than that your daughter for sure got accepted.

Thanks guys for the good wishes, but I haven’t gotten this financial aid contact like SVMMom has had!
This sounds like a definite positive for you and your D, I truly think she’ll get in!

chendrix: That was unnecessarily mean. Chill out.

3 weeks until I’ll have my final decision from Cornell… I remember this time in December/late November. I’ve waited since October 12th for Cornell! I really hope it works out.
