I know how you feel Chandler. We've waited for a final decision than most of the applicants on this forum. Almost 7 months of hoping and praying.

chendrix

You are probably right and I am only deluding myself. All of this is,after all, nothing but pure speculation. I bet the admins get quite a kick out of reading these threads!

SVMMom: Had you sent FAFSA to Cornell (besides the CSS Profile) before you got the original request to fill out the Dependent Verification Form? Typically, this form is required if the FAFSA SAR indicates an EFC with an * which denoted you have been selected for verification. Just curious.

My reading of your tea leaves is all positive.....

thinkingofu

FAFSA was sent in long ago. Just checked and there is an * by EFC in the SAR, so she has been selected for verification.

Cornell never sent us a seperate e-mail asking for this info. My daughter saw it on her "to do" list on the Cornell site. It just appeared a few days ago.

I called financial aid (again) and asked a general question: "If selected for verification do I do it now or only after being accepted?"

She said you only have to do it after acceptance. Then I asked about it appearing on the "to do" list and she said they just put it on there so it is set to go if she is accepted.

This bummed me out as it seems that it might be just something that is now appearing on all selected for verification student's "to do" lists. Does anyone else see this on their list?

But then I remembered that yesterday a different lady I spoke with in the financial aid office actually looked up my D's info and gave me a seven digit number to put in the Cornell student ID spot on the form and told me how to fill it out and to send it in. Wouldn't she have just said "Wait until you know if she is accepted before sending this form in"?

I do not know what to think. I am driving myself crazy thinking about this and have three VERY long weeks to do so.

SVMMom:

Thanks for clarifying. You got an early start on the FAFSA and good for you. The events of the past few days bode well for you. The decisions have been made and have been handed over to FA for financial aid packaging.

For all others, no need to feel pessimistic. For one, Cornell does not require FAFSA till May 1 (after admissions) for all admitted students. So, none of those who have not submitted FAFSA yet can expect to get the Dependent verification worksheet you got to complete.

Sigh. Take a walk. Watch the birds. Read a book.

Patience is a virtue.

"Why would Cornell ask for this other than to confirm her financial aid that they are going to give her?"

I feel awful bursting your bubble... or maybe I don't want to join your bubble, but right now, and I mean like right now, I just opened my Financial Aid to do list and the same thing you had opened up for me. (I checked last night and that wasn't there... I check everyday... is that sad? I digress!)

Anyway...
I read the form thoroughly and from what I see, the reason we are being asked for all this is because they seem to not believe our FAFSA. They need to make sure we aren't lying. Me for example: Family of 5, with 22,500 AGI... and no assets, one in college.

I don't even blame them for verifying! It's hard to believe!

I'm going to call tomorrow and ask for my Seven Digit Cornell ID #.

Also, why would they give us a real Cornell ID student number if we haven't even accepted their offer? (don't get me wrong, the minute, God willing, I get accepted I will press yes 40 billion times.)

Though to be honest... I kind of want to join you on your crazy train :D, except I'm doing my best not to keep my hopes up because the higher you place yourself the farther you can fall.

On a side note: I applied via H/EOP... did you D do as well?

I was deferred and did not get this message in my To-Do List... hmm, maybe it is an indication of acceptance/rejection.

Lots of things to say:

CayugaRed-Thanks, probably the best advice ever!

D did not show me web page with "to do" list until today (just told me about it). She had me look at it this afternoon and it says 2010 verification, due date 2/01/2010. Huh?

Nope on the H/EOP. She is white and OOS.

2008's income for us is extremely less than 2007's was. That is probably why they want to check as we turned in 2007 tax returns also because of early decision.

Good point on the student ID #.

My bubble has been inflating and deflating constantly on it's own, thank you very much!

I am keeping all this speculation from D so she does not get too crushed if she does not get in. She was told by everyone here and elsewhere that she had a great chance and being deferred was tough. She is blissfully ignorant.

Off to read a book, thanks Cayuga!!!

Ah!

I was deferred from CAS and up until today, my FA page was working fine. Well, today I went to see if the school had finally recieved my 2007 W-2 Forms (like a dope, I sent everything BUT them with my FA information). However, when I went to log in, it said my ID had expired. Ahh!!

p.s. I just tried to see my ED round decision online like others have mentioned and I also got the 'Not Submitted' status.

Vonegutted/ Hey, I'm a deferred CAS hopeful for Fall 2009 and the same things happened to me too. So did to Chandlerbig. I just e-mailed the Cornell helpdesk and they gave me a new applicant ID activation code (app id is the same).

DING DING DING!!!!

4. 2008's income for us is extremely less than 2007's was. That is probably why they want to check as we turned in 2007 tax returns also because of early decision."

THERE WE GO! That's what we have in common.

My 2008 is extremely below my 2007 and HEOP asks us for both!

Either way, I hope we get in! this is torture! lol

I asked my dad if he remembered the message from F/A last year. He said they asked again to verify F/A. We too were really hopeful... only to be given a GT. I hope this isnt the case for your D, because if you think 3 weeks is a looooooooooooong time to wait, try a Gt. I am not taking mine.... even though I have made the requirments...

I hope it doesn't mean GT... considering I applied to CoE, and they don't have GT... which would probably mean waitlisted. And from what I hear, no one really gets off that list.

Ah! GT, maybe that would explain why the due date for the verification is 2/01/2010?!!

Well, D will be crushed but her backup is U. of Miami which has given her a VERY nice merit scholarship. She is going into Marine Biology and they have an incredible program there. They have their own deep sea research sub (she wants to research deep sea bacteria) and they EXPECT the undergrads to do research with their 100 scientists and professors at the Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Sciences (which is part of UM).

We are visiting the school over spring break, darn, have to go to Florida in April and lay on a beach.

This is so weird! I just tried logging into my FA information again and the expiration message is gone now.

Were you guys deferred for ED or RD? How did you find out?

Deferred ED.

In RD you are either accepted or rejected. A very unlucky few are subjected to the ultimate hell: waitlisted.

There is also GT (guaranteed transfer), which means you get to wait, worry and work your butt off for another year. What fun!

I phoned Cornell this morning to ask them a question, and "unintentionally" asked them about Cornell ID. Cornell says that it automatically generates a temporary Cornell ID for each applicant.

It has enough digits to generate 10,000,000 Cornell IDs.

However, SVMMom, I think your daughter might have gotten in already XD.

I think we can wait 3 weeks, after all, we've already waited 5 months!
I sincerely hope we all get accepted: we truly love Cornell, and are likely to attend.

FB lalaland: Were you deferred too?

SVMMom: I know how you feel, everyone who chanced me on the Cornell board thought I had a great shot (Cayuga himself said I had an 85% chance of getting in)
So you really never know.
