Question for high scorers (2300+)

how much did your real score differ from your practice scores?

i am finding that on any given practice test my scores can range anywhere from 2200-2350. i am capable of making 800s in each section, which i have done, but the problem is that i can't seem to make all 800s on an individual practice test for a perfect score. i either make a careless mistake on an easy problem in math, or i get difficult words that i have never encountered in CR, or just make a stupid mistake on a writing MC.

critical reading seems to be the "easiest" to perfect, because you get a little leeway, in that you can consistently miss 2 questions on the entire test and still get an 800. only one missed question in either math or writing, however, can ruin a perfect score.

is there any element of luck on the SAT when it comes to getting a perfect score? i have heard that after the 2200+ threshold it is mainly luck, and if all of the combination of factors go your way on test day, then it is possible to get a 2400

I got a 2300 when I did it last year. At the higher scores (2250+?), it does indeed come down to how difficult the questions end up being or whether or not you made a silly mistake. To be honest though, the difference between a 2300 and a 2350 (or any similar score) is minuscule at best. A 2400 is really no more impressive than a 2300+ and colleges want a lot more than SAT scores.

Yes there is some luck involved.
